Stars
The stars tonight,
as beautiful as they ever were,
never changing, knowing nothing of the world below,
knowing nothing of the lonely people who watch them,
of the suffering and joys we experience,
and of the love being displayed below them right now.
the oddest couple,
a found dreamer, and a lost realist,
the younger sister of a best friend,
and the best friend of an older brother,
he gently touches her face, barely skimming her skin with his fingertips,
as if unsure of her reality before him,
the world is laid out before them both,
and she smiles. No longer wary of him,
finally understanding his silences,
which she mistook for hate,
unaware of being a cliche they sit beneath a tree,
staring out over the lights of the city,
sitting in their present forever, content to do just that
and wonder why it took them this long to figure each other out,
seeing now the obvious signs,
that were there all the time,
and the stars tonight,
as beautiful as they ever were,
never changing, unlike the world below,
never lonely,
knowing nothing of the lovers who watch them,
trying to count their immensity,
ignoring the rest of the world.
